Battle Royale

Gameplay

  • Limited Time Mode: 50V50 v2
    • Two teams of 50 fight to the finish!
      • Due to this being a “large squad” mode, Profile Stats will not be tracked. Daily & Weekly challenges will still work, with the exception of the Squad-based challenges (‘Place Top 6 in Squads’, etc.).
    • Storm & Map
      • Each team has a bus, approaching the island from opposite directions. On the map, the friendly bus has a blue outline, enemy has red.
      • Final storm circle visible on minimap at start.
      • Players have 10 minutes to loot the map as the storm closes in on the circle, then 5 minutes to fight, and another 5 minutes as the storm shrinks to the end.
      • Supply drops come in batches of 3-6, fall every two minutes, and only land in the final storm circle.
      • Added dotted line to map, which indicates the "battle lines" between the two teams. Crossing the line will make running into enemies more likely.

      • Farming resources increased 75% over default.
      • Increased floor loot spawn likelihood by 15%.
      • Floor Loot spawns double ammo.

Contestants may not sell, assign or transfer any of their rights in their Submissions under these Official Rules.

CONTESTANTS WILL NOT BE SPECIFICALLY PAID FOR THEIR SUBMISSIONS or for granting Sponsor any of these rights.

While Sponsor will seek to post the Submission in the form as provided at the time of entry, all Contestants agree that due to technical limitations and internal standards, Submissions may be altered from their original form and that Sponsor reserves the right to modify the Submission in its sole discretion, including adding its logo or other trademarks. Heya folks,

It’s been no secret that over the past 24 hours we’ve been experiencing issues with our services that have prevented many of you from playing Battle Royale and Save the World. We’re sorry. We know how frustrating this has been.

We messed up here. As thanks for being awesome and patient, we’re doing the following:
  • For Battle Royale players, this weekend we’ll be offering a Back Bling gift that you can pick up in the store for free.
  • For our Save the World folks, this weekend we will be offering a Troll Stash Llama in the store for free.
Next week, we will be granting a pack of Battle Stars to our Battle Royale players and Seasonal Gold to the Save the World players. This will require brief additional downtime, so we will be including it as a part of our planned update next week.

We’ll have a detailed postmortem of this week’s issues, and more information about how we will improve services for you in the future. Look for this later next week.

See you out on the Battle Bus and Saving the World,

Fortnite Team

Weapons + Items

  • Port-a-Fort added.
    • Epic rarity.
    • Drops in stacks of 1. Can stack up to 5 in inventory.
    • When the Port-a-Fort is thrown, a pre-made fort is constructed instantly at the impact point.
      • The Port-a-Fort is made out of metal and is three stories tall.
      • The bottom floor is 1x1 with a door for entry. Tires inside allow for easy access to the roof.
  • Decreased Guided Missile maximum turn rate by 75%.
  • Reduced Guided Missile movement speed by 15%.
  • Added a short equip time to many weapons (particularly, those with a slower rate of fire).
    • This will reduce the effectiveness of quickly switching between weapons for high burst-damage.
    • Removed the reloading animation on the Pump Shotgun.
    • Weapons affected are:
      • Rocket Launcher
      • Hand Cannon
      • Revolver

  • Updated Medium Ammo inventory icon to make it more easily identifiable.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed weapons floating in the air under certain network conditions after quickly switching between items.
  • Guided Missile weapon fixes:
    • Eliminating a downed player with a Guided Missile no longer reports as a self elimination.
    • Picking up an item at the same time as firing a Guided Missile will no longer cause the picked up item to disappear.
    • Firing a Guided Missile prior to the victory screen displaying will no longer prevent the player from returning to the lobby.
    • Players will now correctly spectate the player that eliminated them instead of spectating their own active missile.
    • While spectating a player that fires a missile, you will now follow the missile instead of the player.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the player to spectate a floating Guided Missile weapon on the starting island if they were eliminated by a missile during the match.
    • Fixed an issue preventing the player from firing a guided missile while riding a guided missile.
    • Fixed an issue causing the player’s name plate to display over the guided missile while controlling it.
  • Fixed an issue where the Rare Scoped Assault Rifle was incorrectly giving an Epic version in Vending Machines.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Loot Llama to be empty in Limited Time Modes.

    • Loot
      • Farming resources increased 75% over default.
      • Increased floor loot spawn likelihood by 15%.
      • Floor Loot spawns double ammo.

      • Chests spawn double ammo & consumables.
      • Supply drops spawn double ammo, and an extra consumable, resource drop and trap.

      • Downed players lose health more quickly than normal (10 health per tick).
  • New 'Builder Pro' controller configuration
    • This configuration is similar to “Combat Pro”, but optimized for fast placement of building pieces.
    • Wall, floor, stairs, and roof have designated buttons on controllers.
    • The first button press will switch to the mapped building piece, then every press after will place that piece.
    • To switch between materials or traps, press the Left D-Pad button.
  • New Squad Comms wheel
    • This allows you to communicate quickly without voice.
    • The following callouts are currently available:
Enemy Spotted, Need Meds, Need Shields, Need Materials, Need Weapon (context-sensitive), and Need Ammo (context-sensitive).
    • Defaults to 'V' key, Right D-Pad on controller, or in the Emote menu on Mobile.

    • Fixed an issue causing players to be pushed under the map if they stood under a falling supply drop.
    • Fixed an issue causing players to launch out of the map after landing on a supply drop.

  • Fixed text on the minimap that was too small.
  • Fixed the map marker not retaining its location when zooming in and out.
  • Fixed an issue with map markers not pinning at your cursor when placing them while zoomed in.
  • The controller analog stick can now be used to scroll the map while zoomed in.
  • Fixed an issue causing the eliminated player count displaying as zero when spectating a Guided Missile.

Art + Animation

  • Tweaked the object pop in animation so objects ease in rather than pop in.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed inconsistent Battle Bus position changes that could occur every few seconds.
  • Fixed the Rock Paper Scissors emote so that it replicates properly in the lobby.
  • Fixed the Rainbow Smash and Candy Axe harvesting tools not always activating.
  • Fixed the Guided Missile firing animation so that it plays properly while spectating the player that is firing the weapon.
  • Reduced the size of Mushrooms that were too large.

Performance

  • Major optimizations + improvements made to console load times and CPU performance.
    • We've made some data layout optimizations in order to improve load times and performance. Load times reduced by 25-30 seconds as a result of these changes on Xbox One and around 10 seconds on PS4. On both platforms, we expect to see fewer issues with geometry or cosmetics failing to load in time, and FPS drops during skydiving. The Xbox One download will be larger than normal in this release as a result of these optimizations. We're working to minimize the impact of this type of optimization in future releases. - Developer Comment
  • Reduced download and patch size for players who just have access to Battle Royale (PC only).
  • Fixed various issues causing the game to freeze up/hitch while loading assets, especially on console. These assets are now preloaded before the game starts.
  • Optimized servers to reduce network lag when firing weapons and taking damage.

Mobile

  • Audio indicator no longer shows silenced weapons, crouched footsteps or ally pickaxes.
  • Multiple graphical improvements were made to the skybox, vegetation and anti-aliasing.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue that caused input to continue when no longer touching the screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the message about jailbroken devices being unsupported wasn’t being shown
    • Attempting to play using a jailbroken device will result in being kicked.
  • Fixed various interacting actions, including:
    • Icons not showing properly on lower-end devices
    • Supply Drops not being able to be opened.
    • Doors not consistently opening and closing.
    • The Map not being able to be zoomed & panned.
    • Instances where accidental button presses would occur.
  • Fixed an issue causing Revolver and Grenade Launcher ammo to float outside the gun.

Save the World

Gameplay

  • Enabled environmental damage for ranged weapons.
    • Percentage of damage done to the environment varies by weapon.
    • Environmental damage scaling for ranged weapons should remain consistent relative to the health of the environment, taking into account the rarity and alterations on the weapon.
      • NOTE: Environmental damage increases with tier and rarity only and is not multiplied through Offense.
    • Ranged weapons can not damage structures you or your team have built.
  • [Rework] Outlander Fragment
    • Fragment abilities, other than the Loot Llama, no longer require equipped Fragment ammo to activate.
    • Fragment abilities now have a cooldown and Energy cost, as other abilities do.
    • Fragment abilities are now improved when the Outlander expends Fragment ammo in their activation.
    • Fragment Ammo capacity has been dramatically increased.
  • [Rework] Melee Weapons + Environment
    • Melee weapons (aside from Pickaxes) can no longer damage structures that you or your team have built, and have had their environmental damage increased.
    • Environmental damage scaling for on-level melee weapons should now feel more consistent, relative to the health of the environment
      • NOTE: Environmental damage increases with tier and rarity only, and is not multiplied through Offense.
    • Axes do increased damage against wood. Hardware does increased damage against stone.Swords, Clubs, Scythes, and Spears do not favor any material type.
  • [Rework] Anomaly
    • Anomaly rewards increased, changed from BluGlo to mission rewards.
    • Anomaly shards will take full damage from the Pickaxe, reduced damage from other melee weapons, and can no longer be damaged by projectiles (Throwing Stars, Rockets, etc).
  • Crafting queue size increased from 10 to 20 (this means 1 in production and up to 19 pending).
  • Cozy Campfire no longer grants any Utility score for healing and instead grants more for placing the trap.
  • Falling Damage has been adjusted so that damage occurs at higher heights.
    • Players now first take damage after falling 1300+ units instead of falling 850 Units
      • (Example) You can now walk off a 3 story building, but you can’t jump off.
    • Initial fall damage increased from 5% max HP to 10% max HP.
    • Next Damage Threshold is now 20% max HP at 3 tiles.
    • Next Damage Threshold is now 50% max HP at 3.75 tiles.
    • Next Damage Threshold is now Knockdown at 4.5 tiles.
      • Farther than 4.5 tiles will also result in Knockdown.
    • Enemy fall damage values have been adjusted to be in line with these changes.
  • The vehicles that Survivors stand on top of will no longer take damage from ranged or melee weapons.
    • Only the Pickaxe can damage them.
  • Increased wood, stone, and metal stack size and carry limits.
    • The default building resource capacity has been increased from 999 to 2000.
    • Building Resource Capacity nodes have replaced the previously existing Weapon Skill nodes in the Skill Tree. These new nodes allow players to upgrade their resource carrying ability by 1000 apiece to a maximum of 5000 per type.
      • Weapon Skill has been effectively uncapped since v3.3, which allowed us the opportunity to remove and repurpose their nodes in the skill tree. So don’t worry - your ability to use weapons of all levels remains unchanged! - Developer Comment
    • Existing items will not automatically restack.
    • You can condense stacks by dropping and picking up items or transferring between backpack and storage.
  • Economy Tuning
    • Increased Hero and Schematic Quest XP for Stonewood, up to Mid Plankerton.
    • Players who have already completed these Quests will be awarded the difference.
  • Challenge Quests have been extended to 20 Stages.
    • The ‘Leave No One Behind’ Challenge Quest now awards Survivor XP, scaled based on stage.
    • Players who have already completed Stages 1-10 of this Quest line will be awarded the Survivor XP.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a long delay that occurred when joining a party when first loading-in on PS4.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause BluGlo pylons to spawn on top of one another.
  • The buff from BluGlo pylons is no longer lost after 10 minutes.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause players to pick up items much slower than normal.

FAQ

Which platforms are replays available on?
Right now replays are available on PC, PS4, and XB1.

Where can I find my replays?
Replays can be found under the Career tab in the lobby.

Where can I find the controls?
Camera Controls are displayed on the bottom of the screen when you switch cameras. They toggle off with the UI visibility toggle.

Are there any PC specific controls?
On PC you can can store camera shortcuts to quickly cut between cameras and jump to points in your replay. There are two ways to store a camera cut. You can store just the camera properties or the camera properties and the current time on the timeline.

Ctrl+Numpad# - Stores current camera type/position, and selected player
Ctrl+Alt+Numpad# - Stores current camera type/position, selected player AND position on the timeline

Numpad# - Recalls stored camera type/position (and time if stored)

How does the replay system work?
The replay system works by recording all of the network traffic going out to and coming in from the server during the match. Basically when you watch a replay that recorded network stream is being played back so you see exactly what you saw when you played the game.

When you play a match you are only able to see and interact with players and objects within a certain distance from you at any given time. Only the players and objects in area are recorded into the replay file. We call this area the “Replay Region”.

While watching a replay you may see players exit and enter the Replay Region. These players are located on the edge of the area that is captured in the replay file. You can see the Replay Region in the map view when watching a replay. You can also toggle the Replay Region visualization in the replay settings menu.

How are my replays stored?
Replays are stored locally on your console or PC.

On console your last 10 matches are stored automatically* as you play, and on PC your last 100 are stored. These are stored as unsaved replays and will be overwritten as you play more games. If you want to keep a replay you can select it in the replay browser and rename it. On console you can save a total of 10 replays. On PC this number is unlimited. A replay file that lasts the entire match is about 10MB in size.

*Replays will only playback in the version of Fortnite that they were recorded in. Whenever there is a new update to Fortnite your old replay files will no longer be valid.

What’s next for replays?
Like Fortnite in general we will constantly be improving the replay system including new camera modes, new visualizations, overlays, and more!

Fortnite fans,

Starting this week, we are doing things a little differently. Every other week we will drop new content without the need for an update. These will be called Content Updates. This new cadence allows us to iron out more complex bugs, while continuing to provide fun content every week.

Vending Machine (Battle Royale)
Sweets you want, without the sugar rush. Materials go in, loot comes out.

Got materials to spare? Spend them at Vending Machines, now found in many locations across the island. Each Vending Machine offers 3 different deals, rarity and items chosen at random.

High Explosives v2 (Battle Royale)
Things are really BOOM-ing in v2 of this explosive mode! Remote Explosives and Guided Missiles added for even more ‘splosions.

Easter Egg Launcher (Save the World)
This is no joke, the Easter Egg Launcher really keeps things egg-splosive!

We’re proud to present the Combat Pro control scheme for Save the World!  Here are the PS4 & Xbox One images (explanation below):

Why Combat Pro?

For those of you who have been playing Battle Royale as well as Save the World, you've probably seen that the default control schemes are significantly different.  One of the critical features in Combat Pro is switching weapons and building pieces on the controller bumpers.

In Save the World, the typical control schemes require the player to let go of the aim stick to press (Triangle or Y) to switch weapons or building types.  Now, since players won’t have to remove their fingers from the movement and aim sticks, Combat Pro for Save the World will allow players to stay in the fight while selecting what they’re using next.

It’s also critical for players to be able to use their hero-specific abilities amidst combat.  For example, it’s critical to Ninjas that they be able to use Shurikens and Dragon Slash in battle. To preserve the ease of activating hero abilities, they all use one of the bumpers in combination with the opposite bumper or trigger.  Those three combinations are easy to press since they don’t require the player to press both a bumper and trigger using the same hand.  Since you can press and hold the bumper before pressing the opposite button, it should be easy to use any ability without accidentally switching weapons, zooming, or firing.

One other small advantage of the new control scheme is that you can tap (Triangle or Y) in either mode to toggle to your harvesting tool, rather than having to hold it.  And tapping (Triangle or Y) on the harvesting tool switches back to your last weapon for a fast way to re-enter combat.

If you want to use the new control scheme, select Save the World, then go to the Settings menu and choose the Controller tab.  You can switch the Configuration to Combat Pro to give it a try.

We hope you enjoy this control scheme! Please give us feedback as we want to iterate and improve this over time.

Hey Fortnite Community,

We’re happy to announce today that in partnership with our friends at Microsoft, Fortnite will feature cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase, between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and (in the next few months) Android.

Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fornite players on Xbox right along with other platforms.

With each new platform we support and every update we ship, we strive to bring Fortnite to more people, and make it easier to play together with friends. And, as always, cross-play is opt in.

As we shared a few days ago, starting Monday you can sign-up for the Fortnite Invite Event on iOS. On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates.

See you on the Battle Bus,

Fortnite Team

Battle Royale V.3.0.0 Patch Notes
Battle Royale Building Improvements!
Heya folks,

We’re always hammering away at building and working through ways to improve feel. Our new features (in v.3.0.0) allow you to both be in the heat of battle and still craft that clutch set of stairs!

Turbo Building
“Turbo Building” allows you to hold down primary fire and continuously place the selected building piece (Toggled in the Game options). Now you can “paint” building pieces into the world quickly. This will be very useful for defensively building walls around you and sprinting up ramps while building them simultaneously.

Automatic Material Swapping
“Auto Change Materials” will switch to another material when your current supply runs dry(this can be toggled in the Game options). In addition to “Turbo Building” this makes the building process fast and simple. It also allows for quick defensive structures from flanking with less input and worry about running out of a particular material.

Build Through Stuff
Sometimes it's frustrating when your placement is blocked unexpectedly and you aren’t sure why.   Currently, smaller objects like furniture and shrubs are destroyed when you build over them, but trees, rocks and vehicles can still get in the way.  We've changed the building system to allow you place structures right through large objects,  meaning you can now build pretty much anywhere at anytime!

NOTE: Player structures must still be supported by the terrain and other buildings. For example: A sky ramp that passes through a tree will still fall if the connection to the terrain or floor is destroyed.

Switching Building Pieces  (Battle Royale only, for now)
Switching between building pieces can sometimes feel laggy or unpredictable, especially on controllers.  To improve this, we've changed the network code so cycling through building pieces no longer requires  a round trip to Epic's servers. Initially this improvement will be Battle Royale only, but we’re working to bring it to Save the World!

Heya folks,

With Season 2 coming to a close later this week, we’re here to answer your questions!

When you buy the Season 3 Battle Pass, you’ll instantly unlock a batch of great in-game rewards including the new Mission Specialist Outfit! As you play during the season, you unlock a series of reward tiers. The more you play, the more you unlock.

So, what’s different about the Season 3 Battle Pass? There are now 30 more tiers in Season 3 (100 total), and with more tiers comes more loot.

Even though we added 30 tiers, you’ll still be able to complete the Season 3 Battle Pass in the same amount of time as the Season 2 Battle Pass (typically 75-150 hours). Don’t have the time? You can always purchase tiers for 150 V-Bucks each.

New Battle Bundle

Includes access to the Battle Pass and instantly unlocks your next 25 tiers, all at a 40% discount.

Weekly Challenges

Play at your own pace!

Tier up even faster by completing the new Weekly Challenges. Every week a new set of seven challenges unlocks, replacing the Season 2 Battle Pass daily challenges. Weekly Challenges stack and can be completed any time before the season ends, so if you buy a pass mid-season you’ll still have access to all of the previous Weekly Challenges. You can complete four out of the seven Weekly Challenges to unlock your rewards, so choose the challenges that best fit your play style!

FAQ

If I purchase the Battle Pass Season 2 do I get the Battle Pass Season 3?

No, but you keep all of the rewards you've earned from the Season 2 Battle Pass!

How do I buy the Battle Pass?
  1. Launch Fortnite
  2. Select Battle Royale
  3. Navigate to the Battle Pass Tab
  4. Purchase either the Battle Pass or the Battle Bundle

What if I buy the Battle Pass late in the season?

You will receive all of the rewards up to your current level, retroactively!

I want to get everything right away.  Since there are more levels in Season 3, isn’t it going to cost more to buy my way to the end?

Yes, it does. For the first 70 tiers you’ll receive 70 items, just like last season.  The added 30 tiers in Season 3 offer more loot than before. We have designed the boosts and challenges so you can complete the 100 tiers of the Season 3 in the same time that it took you to complete the 70 tiers of Season 2.

  • During the Spring It On! event, increasing the mission's difficulty at least once awards a number of Firecracker Tickets, starting at 40 tickets in lower Stonewood, and topping out at 94 tickets at the end of Twine Peaks.

Rarity Evolution and Recycling Changes

  • The costs of Rarity Evolution have been reworked. The cost to increase the rarity of a Hero now costs more Training Manuals and evolution materials (Drops of Rain, Eye of the Storm, etc) depending on the star level of the Hero.
    • A partially-complete version of this change was released early in v.2.4.2 and had higher-than-intended costs for evolving 3,4 and 5-Star Heroes. These costs have been corrected in this patch.
  • When 2-Star or higher Schematics, Heroes, Survivors, Survivor Leads and Defenders are recycled they will now refund all evolution materials spent evolving the item.
    • This change was made because we wanted players to be able to level up and test out new heroes, weapons, and traps without the risk of losing valuable evolution materials.

Service Stability Issues

We were not able to stay ahead of our continued growth and multiple of our backend services have been struggling under load the last several weeks (e.g. friends functionality and general login service). And we also shipped v2.3.0 with significant bugs.

We don’t consider either acceptable. We have changed our release plans & processes to help improve quality of client builds, and scrambled people to make traction on backend scalability by any means possible.

Ongoing Optimizations

When you play some Battle Royale, we want the time from when you’re in the lobby to when you’re in the action to be as short as possible. We’re continuing to work on load time improvements to help with that. You want a smoother in-game experience, and we agree!

We are testing and bug fixing  improvements that will deliver better level streaming with less hitches. We’re getting close to being able to test a significant optimization to our networking code that should get us closer to running the server at a solid 20 Hz even in the beginning of the match.

60 FPS on Console

Later this month we plan to add an optional 60 FPS mode for Battle Royale on consoles (PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X). This 60 FPS mode is tuned for each console to maximize frame rate while minimizing loss of visual quality.

West Coast (US) / Brazilian Servers

We feel your pain with ping (our internal playtests are done across the ocean). We have added West Coast and Brazilian Xbox servers to provide better connection options.

The below picture shows average ping improvements for West Coast (US)

Matchmaking Improvements

We are working on changes to matchmaking that are aimed at creating matches with a more balanced distribution of skill.

Art

The Art team has been having a blast coming up with cool ideas for cosmetics in Fortnite Battle Royale. Since the holiday event we’ve enjoyed seeing the community embrace outfits like the Fort Knights and Disco Heroes. That trend towards more adventurous items will continue.

Gliders deserve love too and we’ve begun work on a pipeline that allows us to add new model parts and materials to create more unique Gliders. Here is an example that might pop into the store in the near future!

Additionally, we are working on new Outfits that change more of the model, similar to how we created Raptor!

We want to hear from you! We love your ideas, and thanks to reddit user /u/Pandanapper the Llama Unicorn Pickaxe for the Brite Bomber has come to life!

How about making the things you already own even better? We’re looking at previously released cosmetic items and finding ways to juice them up! One example is adding new visual effects to the Party Animal Pickaxe (now with splashing animations).

Gameplay Weekly updates, items, and features!

We’re continuing to prototype new weapons and consumables, and will roll them out as they’re ready. Additionally, we’re looking to add different types of items down the road (beyond just weapons and consumables) that will allow for exciting new ways to play.
Next week we’ll be putting our first weapon (SMG) into the Vault. These weapons may or may not return and this allows us to manage the weapon pool as we introduce newer weapons.

You have also helped to surface quality of life fixes, and here are some on the short list right now are:
  • Improved building controls on console
  • Team Communication outside of voice chat
  • Ability to re-queue from the death screen
  • Ability to preemptively hold down the search button while approaching a searchable object
  • Display of how much ammo is loaded into a gun on the weapon widget
  • Larger map w/ zoom

Quickbar Improvements

We’ve been working on making that swap between your weapon bar and your build bar feel more crisp. Making it easier to swap between build pieces when you have moderate ping and removing visual stuttering when you quickly scroll through items are being worked on as well!

Social

Many of you love playing Fortnite with friends. We take that to heart so we’ve been in the lab cooking up ways to improve that. In the short term we’ll enhance your abilities to find and play with your friends. Long term we plan to rework the social architecture and all social features within Fortnite (i.e. chat and friends list).

Invite your friends, first from Facebook (PC first, console to follow), soon with other social networks! We’re also working on a “Looking for Group” feature to make it easier for your squad to party up or look for more!

Feature Example: You’ll be able to spectate and chat with your friends while you wait for them to finish up that solo match, in-game!

If you’re feeling generous, we have a feature on the horizon just for you ;)

Limited Time Modes

We’ve been hammering away at Limited Time Modes! Getting you multiple playlists (solo, duo and squads) during LTMs is at the top of the priority stack. We’ve been using multiple data points (including your feedback) to iterate our existing LTM’s and to build brand new LTM’s. We are planning to quickly spin up a dozen or so LTMs, some of these may be more straightforward (e.g. along the lines of Sniper Shootout, Sneaky Silencer etc.). We also use LTMs to test new Shooting Models.

From there, we want to make internal improvements so we can introduce more involved LTMs (e.g. “floor is lava”).

Modes we plan to run in the next month or so:
  • Blitz Mode (shorter matches!)
  • Drop into the first circle
  • Generally less time between circles
  • Team sizes in between 50v50 and squads
  • 50v50 v2
    • Closer to the 50v50 Trailer experience
    • Split to start
    • Converge on Battle
    • Bus for each team
    • See all your squadmates on the map
    • More supply drops

Custom Matches

You may have seen some players getting involved in our Fortnite Friendlies, which is our way of testing out private match functionality and working out the bugs. We want to iron out some of the bigger kinks before rolling this out to the entire game!

Audio

Footsteps
Above/below footsteps have been implemented, meaning that different audio assets will play depending on another player’s position relative to you. These assets have been filtered based on real-world data to sound like they’re on the floor above you versus the floor below you.

In addition, we also remove some of the filtered above/below content if there’s direct line of sight between you and the other player. This “opens” the footsteps up a bit and helps in cases where the building gets a little wild.

Listener Position
We’ll be changing the way the listener behaves for 2.5. Volume attenuation will be moved to the player’s location, and panning will still be calculated from the camera. Previously, panning and volume attenuation were based on the camera’s location. This led to a lot of confusion when moving the camera around to locate a chest, as the volume would dip in and out as the camera swung around.

Building
Audio for placing structures has been redesigned to put more emphasis on the “placement” of structures. So if a player is rapidly approaching you and building ramps up to your tower, you’ll hear a steady “chunk, chunk, chunk” as they place the structures, extending to about the range of sprinting footsteps. We’ll be closely monitoring how this affects building, both in offensive and defensive situations.

Battle Pass Season 3

We thank all of you for your support throughout Season 2. We’re excited and can’t wait to announce details on the Battle Pass for Season 3!
For example, we heard your concerns about the daily challenge system.

In Season 3  we’re adding flexibility by replacing the second daily challenge with a new weekly system. Battle Pass owners will unlock a new bundle of quests each week of the season which can be completed any time before the end of the season.
